The Strength of God’s Grace
by Chris Machamer
April 2025
Jesus brought everything we need in this life, and it is all laid out in the New Testament, His will for us. Jesus purchased it with His divine blood, and everything in it is made available to us through God’s amazing grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ (John 1:17).
Jesus is the embodiment of God’s grace toward the human race. When He came into the world, the Bible tells us that He fulfilled the Law and the prophets; and He ushered humanity into an age of grace before God. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God (Ephesians 2:8). At Calvary, the divine blood flowed from Jesus’ body, and God’s grace flowed to humanity; but so many sinners and even Christians have turned off that flow. Faith has to be in operation for God’s grace to flow to you.
God’s grace is His complete favor, and "whosoever will" can receive it by faith when they receive Christ’s sacrifice. To receive God’s grace is strength, and it’s all the strength you’ll ever need in this life. If God be for us, who can be against us (Romans 8:31)? You can be so weak; but if God be for you, it doesn’t matter who or what is against you because you are made strong by His grace.
No Sin Accepted
Beware because deceivers fill pulpits today and profess that the grace of God enables a Christian to sin. They say His grace covers sin when it’s committed, but that contradicts the Word of God which declares God’s grace saves a person from their sins and then gives them strength to stay free from its bondage. God’s grace is strength to sin no more.
Paul wrote, Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members [your hands, your feet, your tongue or other members of your body] as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God (Romans 6:12,13).
When you commit sin, you become dead in sin; and the members of your body become instruments of unrighteousness. When you yield yourself to God, His Word, His grace and His Only Begotten Son’s divine blood sacrifice, you become alive. Then your eyes, your tongue, your hands and your feet become instruments of God’s righteousness.
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace (Romans 6:14). How can preachers and teachers be so misinformed when that is plainly laid out in the Word of God? People are deceived because they want to be deceived, and they want to sin.
What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid (Romans 6:15). If you want to go to God’s Heaven, you have to go God’s way no matter what people say.
When you are born again, God’s grace gives you freedom from the dominion of sin; but you still have free choice. That means you must choose to be obedient to God and His Word, and God’s Word makes a clear separation between His righteousness and sin. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness (Romans 6:18,20).
You can’t be a servant of God’s righteousness and commit sin because when you’re sinning, you have no righteousness of God in you. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life (Romans 6:22). That is what God’s grace does for a person. The strength of that grace towards humanity is miraculous, and there is nothing it cannot do for a child of God through Jesus Christ.
Noah Found God’s Grace
The Word contains examples of the strength of God’s grace on display in the lives of people, and I take you to the Old Testament because the times before the Law and under the Law were not ages of grace like we live in today. If people before Calvary could receive the strength of God’s grace, how much more can and should we receive the strength of that grace after Calvary?
In Genesis, we find that Noah and his family lived in the midst of a very wicked, evil civilization. No matter what God did, the people rejected His grace; so He planned to destroy them all with a great flood because there was nothing more He could do with them.
But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD (Genesis 6:8). So under God’s direction and with the strength of His grace, Noah and his family—just eight souls—built an ark of safety. It is believed that they worked for over 100 years on that ark, and nothing so large had ever been built before. The strength of God’s grace kept them undefiled and separated from that wicked civilization the entire time they were building.
When the ark was finished, God instructed Noah to put two of every kind of animal into the ark with him and his family. That sounded impossible, but God’s grace drew those animals into the ark.
After Noah and his family and all the animals were on board, God’s grace kept that ark door open for seven more days for anyone else who might want to get on board with them. No one else had helped build the ark, but God and His grace were still allowing them to be saved from the Flood. At the end of those seven days, God’s grace shut the ark door; and the rain began.
Noah, his family and all those animals were on the ark for over a year, but God’s grace miraculously supplied enough food for all of them. Even if Noah could have stored enough food for his family and all the animals, it would have spoiled before they could eat it all; but because Noah was living in God’s will, the Lord supplied everything he and his family needed.
God’s Way Is Not Easy
If you will live in God’s grace and act upon it, His grace will be unlimited in your life; but many children of God are not living in God’s will. They have chosen their own will, so the faucet of God’s grace has been turned off in their lives; and they wonder why God is not moving for them. When you are living in the will of God, you will have the faith to believe for whatever you need. Only through faith can you please God, and then you will have an abundance of His grace.
The plan of God was not easy for Noah and his family; and many times, it will not be easy for you either. That’s why you have God’s grace and divine strength to get you through the tough times you will face when you are living in God’s will.
Lot found grace in God’s eyes. For that righteous man [Lot] dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their [the people of Sodom and Gomorrah] unlawful deeds (II Peter 2:8). Those cities were so wicked that God decided to destroy them, so He sent Lot and his family His grace in the form of two angels to lead them out before His judgment fell.
Beware of the Falling Away
Jesus said that when He makes His second appearance to Earth, the condition of the world will be the same as it was in the wicked civilizations of Noah’s and Lot’s days. The Apostle Paul wrote that in the last days, there would be a great falling away from truth and that evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived (II Timothy 3:13). He also said, The time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine (II Timothy 4:3).
Today, so many people, and even professing Christians, are giving themselves over to stories or fables and not the real truth. They think they’re right with God when they’re not. But like Noah and Lot, the bridal company members are waiting for Jesus to deliver them from God’s hand of judgment; and they possess the strength of God’s grace to sustain them until that day of deliverance comes.
But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound (Romans 5:20). When sin multiplies, grace multiplies even more for those who are living by faith; and sin is abounding everywhere today. But God’s grace is also abounding to strengthen His people, preserve them from the wickedness of this society and protect them from danger. Paul wrote, This know also, that in the last days perilous times [because of the condition of society] shall come. (II Timothy 3:1). Paul then listed those perilous conditions in II Timothy 3:2-7.
God’s grace will be there to supply whatever need you may have and enable you to do His will regardless of what is going on around you. God’s grace led Noah and Lot from judgment to safety, and it will do the same for His people today.
Obey and Believe
First Kings 17 tells of God sending a great famine upon the land of Israel because the people were worshipping idols. There was a widow in Zarephath who had just a handful of meal and a few drops of oil left to make one last little cake for her and her son; but God sent the prophet Elijah to tell her, Make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son. For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth (I Kings 17:13,14).
That woman had to decide whether she was going to obey the Word of God and obtain God’s grace or keep that little cake for her and her son to eat. Thankfully, she decided to believe God against all odds and give her last little bit of food to the man of God. Then the Lord miraculously supplied the meal and oil she needed until the end of the famine.
When you fail to put God first even in extreme circumstances, you will not receive God’s grace; but that woman obeyed by faith, and God’s grace flowed to her. God will supply your needs too when you live by faith, and you will have the strength of God’s grace. So when your situation looks impossible, simply obey the Lord and put Him first. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).
The Furnace of Fellowship
In Daniel, you can read of the miracle of the strength of God’s grace for three Hebrew boys. Sin and idol worship abounded everywhere in the Kingdom of Babylon, and it was no place for a faithful servant of the Lord; but the three Hebrew boys were slaves there.
When King Nebuchadnezzar made an idol god and commanded all subjects to worship it, only the three Hebrew boys refused to bow to it; so they were cast into a fiery furnace. But God’s grace flowed for them, and they did not burn.
In the midst of that fiery furnace, they found Jesus. The king was watching the whole thing; and he said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God (Daniel 3:25). A lot of people want more of Jesus, more of His grace and more of His manifestations and revelations; but they don’t realize that in the midst of the flame is where they will find those things.
The three Hebrew boys found great fellowship with the Son of God when they were standing in the midst of the fiery flame. Are you willing to go into the fiery furnace to receive that same fellowship? Paul said, That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings (Philippians 3:10). You will never know Jesus until you know Him in both of those things; and as you grow and mature in the Lord, that is how you will seek to know Him.
Grace in the Fire
Jesus said, In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world (John 16:33). You will face tribulations and the fiery furnace, but don’t fear them or grumble and complain about them. Instead, you must live by faith and rejoice. Then when you go into the fiery furnace, you will see Jesus there; and you won’t burn. You will become stronger in the Lord and be more like Him.
The fiery furnace wasn’t designed to destroy you; it was designed to purify you and make you stronger, so don’t try to avoid it. Face it in faith knowing that God’s grace in the form of Jesus will meet you there.
Peter wrote, Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour (I Peter 5:8). With God’s grace, a child of God has nothing to fear because His grace will always protect you and keep you from harm; but if you’re going to doubt and not live by faith, don’t expect His grace to be yours.
God’s Grace Is Sufficient
The Apostle Paul received a great revelation from the Lord about the strength of God’s grace when Satan had sent an angel to follow Him wherever he went to stir up persecution against him. Because of that, Paul was rejected and beaten again and again. He was whipped, stoned and left for dead. Life was really hard for Paul because of that devil.
Paul sought the Lord three times to be delivered from that devil, and God’s answer to his prayer was, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness (II Corinthians 12:9). That was not the answer Paul had been expecting, and God will not always answer your prayers the way you want Him to or expect Him to either; but God provided Paul with the strength to endure and overcome that angel.
Once Paul knew the will of God about his request, he yielded to it completely without any questions or reservations even though it didn’t match his will. That’s why he could declare, Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me (II Corinthians 12:9). So many Christians won’t yield to God’s will, so God’s grace dries up in their lives; but God’s grace is to be there to strengthen us in our weak times.
That experience taught Paul what great strength there is in God’s grace. He learned to go deeper with the Lord and draw on and depend on God’s grace daily. Paul is an example to all that no matter what you face in life, there is strength in God’s grace to endure, overcome and be victorious.
Go God’s Way
Not everything will go your way in this life. Satan is always sending devils and people your way to try to defeat you. Also, God’s ways are not always going to be your ways. He will not always move as you think He should, and He will not always answer your prayers as you desire. You have to learn to live by faith and yield to God’s ways at all times. The just shall live by faith (Romans 1:17).
When you are facing a great trial and you’re praying and seeking God for a particular answer that doesn’t come about, it’s time to settle in by faith and look to God for the grace and strength to see you through. Immediate deliverance doesn’t always happen, but God will always provide the grace and strength you need. You’ll never be defeated when you trust in Him.
Too often, Christians seek the easy way out of their troubles, but that may not always be the path God wills for you to travel. There will be times when He wants to teach you what it means to have the power of Christ resting upon you in your times of weakness. He wants to teach you what it means not to live by your will, strength and abilities but by His. Then you will begin to know Christ like never before.
Paul learned to know Christ in every way; and that’s why he could write, Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content (Philippians 4:11) That was a statement of humility, obedience and grace.
Paul went on to say, I know both how to be abased, [cast down] and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me (Philippians 4:12,13). Paul knew the strength of God’s grace was sufficient to help him do the whole will of God; When you learn that, you will have no reason to question or doubt God, and you won’t complain or back away from Him.
Grace Kept Paul and Silas
Paul and Silas experienced the strength of God’s grace in a great way when they were called by God to Macedonia. When they cast a devil out of a slave girl in the city of Philippi, they were arrested, publicly humiliated, beaten and then thrown into the innermost part of the prison. They were sitting there with their feet in stocks, but they were in God’s will.
Paul and Silas knew what God’s grace was all about, so at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed (Acts 16:25,26).
The jailer thought all the prisoners had escaped and was about to kill himself, But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas (Acts 16:28,29). That night, the jailor and his family were saved.
God Makes Everything Right
When everything seems to be going wrong in your life, don’t give up and think God doesn’t care; draw closer to Him. Only through living by faith will you be able to face the trials, the lions’ den, the fiery furnace and the jail in Philippi. God’s grace will see you through, and you will come out victorious and stronger in the Lord.
Jesus said, In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world (John 16:33). When you believe in God and His grace, you can glory in your trials and infirmities because you will know they are opportunities for the power of Christ to rest upon you and make you an overcomer through the strength of God’s grace.
Friend, God’s grace is for you whether you are a sinner or a child of God. If you are a sinner, you need to accept God’s grace and ask Jesus into your heart. Then His grace can begin working for you. Say the sinner’s prayer located on page 13 of this magazine.
If you are a child of God, are you walking in God’s will; and is His grace flowing to you in abundance? If you are living by faith and obedience unto God’s Word day by day, His grace is unlimited for you. You can rejoice and be glad because no matter what you face in life, you will be brought through by God’s grace victoriously.
